Day 1
Catching up with family and getting reacquainted with Hong Kong.
Lucky for us peters brother Geoff and his lovely wife Debbie have been kind enough to let us stay with them on the island f Lantau until 18/12 which happens to be Debbie's birthday.
Today Wednesday we had peters brother in law Tony stop through on his way to Munich. We all caught the ferry from muiwo which in on Lantau to Central which is on Hong Kong island. Visited the peak and reminisced about our honeymoon over 35 years ago. Of course I was only 15 so don't remember too much, ha ha only joking. The trip to the top of the mountain was by cable car and very steep incline, lots of fun. We had lunch at Bubba Gump which I have always wanted to visit it was at the peak and the view was great. Due to the cool weather there has been a lot of smog, but I am enjoying not melting every time in walk out of the house.
We did some grocery shopping on HK and then headed home. As we have to take a ferry and a taxi this can take awhile but loved the ferry. We said farewell to Tony and got a good night sleep as we were off to Macau tomorrow to see THE HOUSE OF THE DANCING WATER show at The city of Dreams casino.
Day 2 - Macau
Well an early start today as we had to catch a ferry to Central and then to Macau. We were travelling premium so got a lovely breakfast on the way to Macau . We then hired a driver for the day and took in the sights. We visited Macau on our honeymoon and did not expect to see the casino we stayed in still standing, but there it was The Lisboa, back then it was the only official casino, now there are 135 including, crown, the Venetian MGM grand, The Galaxy just to name a few. Our driver was lovely, and after lunch we headed to the show. But before I had to have a look at The Venetian casino, it was amazing. I must mention 1. The amount of mainland Chinese tourists OMG there was a constant stream coming and going to the casino in buses & 2. The smog it was ok in the morning but by 4pm your eyes were hurting and it looked like there had been a bush fire in the hills. Our show was at 5pm and it was amazing, ballet dancing, theatre, acrobatics like cirque de solie , the stage floor kept rising and lowering and filling with water then emptying WOW.
My favourite part was the motorcycle stunt show, yes I said motorcycle stunt show all done within the same area as the show.
After the show we were pretty tired and headed home very happy we had seen the show.
Day 3 - yes only day three !!! - bargin hunting - fabrics
Today instead of resting which any sensible person would do I dragged peter to Sha Shui Po, which is an outer suburb of HK Central.
We caught the train from Tung Chueng, which is a 15minute car trip from Geoff & Debbies place. We then caught the under water tunnel train which we also caught back in the day. Only took about 30 minutes all up very efficient interchanges and only cost $13 HK.
We stepped out of the subway to find shopping heaven, there are streets of fabric sellers both in street stalls and shops. Also shops that sold, just buttons, buckles , leather, ribbons, craft stuff that would make my crafty friends swoon. Also electronics, toys, clothes and christmas decorations.
Peter said it reminded him of old HK there was even a butcher shop without a shop front which amazed me when were were here in the day.
Peter was very patient and I found a shop selling lovely fabrics for $10HK or approx $1.70 a yard, I was like a kid in a candy store.
I bought some ski gloves for $15 Aud , I am feeling quite ready for the snow, these may be my famous last words.
We had had enough by 2pm and the crowds were getting thicker time to go home.
Day 4 - BBQ at Lower Chueng Sha village (Geoff & Debbie's slice of heaven)
Today we are cooking up a feast and meeting some new friends.
